FW Rental for WooCommerce tutorial for WordPress

Product Admin

FW Rental for WooCommerce applies one set of rental rules to every product in your shop. That is the right shape for most shops. Product Admin is for the shop where one product is not like the others. It adds two things to the Rental tab of the product edit screen: the ability to override any rental setting for that specific product, and a read-only list of what that product is currently and upcoming booked for.

Nothing about selling a rental depends on this add-on. A shop without it sets its rules once and sells exactly as it did.

Use Cases

  • A fleet with one exception. Your shop holds unpaid orders for 24 hours, but one high-demand item should release in two. Set that on the product and leave the rest of the catalogue untouched.
  • Different lead times for different items. A marquee needs a week of notice; a projector can go out today. Set booking lead time per product instead of using a compromise value for everything.
  • Checking availability without leaving the product. Current and upcoming bookings appear on the same screen as the product's prices and settings.
  • Catching a clash before the customer does. Overbooked dates are flagged directly in the booking list.

Installation

Product Admin arrives inside a pack — an ordinary WordPress plugin carrying the add-ons your subscription includes. Download the pack from your client section on fastw3b.com, then upload and activate it via Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin. Once activated, the add-on registers itself with FW Rental and the two new sections appear on the Rental tab of any product.

Also connect your site on WooCommerce > FW Rental. This is not required for the add-on to work, but it enables pack updates and is what support tickets are raised against. No key is needed — pressing Connect this site to fastw3b.com takes you to your client section and back.

Per-Product Settings

Under This product's settings on the Rental tab, you can override the following shop-wide settings for this product alone:

  • Show availability — whether the product page states how many units are free
  • Paid orders hold dates — whether paid bookings make their dates unavailable
  • Unpaid orders hold dates — whether orders awaiting payment hold their dates
  • Unpaid order hold — hours an unpaid order keeps its dates
  • Booking lead time — days of notice required before the pickup date
  • First day is free — whether the pickup day is charged
  • Last day is free — whether the return day is charged
  • Selling a booked product — whether an outright sale is capped at unbooked stock, or allowed with stranded bookings flagged

Every control offers Inherit as its first option and shows the shop's current value beside it. A control you have not changed is visibly a decision to follow the shop setting, not an empty field — and if the shop setting changes later, this product moves with it automatically.

The three display settings (date format, week start, and whether prices include tax) are not overridable. They are shop-wide by design: a product with its own date format would produce a page that contradicts itself.

Current and Upcoming Bookings

Below the settings, a table lists up to 30 current and upcoming bookings for this product: the customer's pickup and return dates, quantity, a link to the order, and the order's status. For the full history, use the order list filtered by product.

If any bookings are overbooked, they are flagged in their rows and a notice above the table states how many there are and what to do: reduce the booking, restock, or contact the customer.

The table is read-only. Dates are changed on the order, where the customer record and payment both live, so there is one place to make changes rather than two.

When a Subscription Lapses

Nothing breaks and nothing is deleted. The free plugin continues renting normally. Per-product settings are kept in the database but stop being read, so each product falls back to the shop-wide setting rather than to a half-configured state. Renewing the subscription restores every saved setting exactly as it was.
