The availability settings control which orders reserve dates and how far in advance a customer must book. Find them at WooCommerce > Settings > Rental, in the Availability group.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Show availability | Yes | Show how many units are free for the chosen dates on the product page. |
| Paid orders hold dates | Yes | Bookings from paid orders make their dates unavailable to everyone else. |
| Unpaid orders hold dates | Yes | Bookings from orders awaiting payment hold their dates temporarily. |
| Unpaid order hold | 24 hours | Hours an unpaid order keeps its dates before they are released again. Zero releases them immediately. |
| Booking lead time | 0 days | Days of notice required before the pickup date. Zero allows a booking starting today. |
The Unpaid order hold is what prevents two customers from checking out with the same dates. While one customer's order is awaiting payment, those dates are held and appear unavailable to anyone else browsing the same product.
Set the hold long enough for your slowest payment method to complete. A shop that accepts bank transfers needs more than 24 hours, since transfers can take several business days to clear. A shop that only accepts card payments can safely use a shorter hold, since cards typically complete within minutes.
Setting the hold to zero releases dates immediately if an order is not paid, which is only appropriate if every payment method on your checkout completes instantly and synchronously.
The Booking lead time setting adds a buffer between today and the earliest date a customer can select as a pickup date. At the default of zero, a customer can book a rental starting the same day. Increase this value if your operation requires preparation time before a rental can begin — for example, if items need to be inspected or transported before handover.
