FW Food Menu tutorial for WordPress

What the Cart Plugin Does

The FWFM Cart plugin transforms FW Food Menu from a display-only menu into a functional online ordering system. Once active, visitors can add meals to a shopping cart and submit orders directly from the menu. An Orders section appears in the FW Food Menu admin area, giving you a central place to track and manage all incoming orders.

Use Cases

  • Online food ordering — guests browse the menu, add items to their cart, and complete a checkout form with their name, phone, email, and delivery details.
  • Order management — administrators view all orders, filter by status (new, processing, completed, cancelled), and search by customer name, email, phone, or comment.
  • Order notifications — each new order triggers an email notification to the configured admin address, and optionally sends a confirmation to the customer.

Frontend Cart

The cart is displayed using the FWFM Cart Module. Visitors add items using the "Add to cart" button on each meal card. The cart panel shows current items, quantities, totals, and a checkout form. Orders cannot be submitted if the cart is empty or required fields are incomplete.

Checkout Fields

The standard checkout form collects the following information from the customer:

  • Name — customer's full name
  • Phone — contact number
  • Email — used to send the order confirmation
  • Delivery / Pickup — delivery type selection (extended further by the Delivery and Tables plugins)
  • Comment — optional notes on the order

Orders List

Go to FW Food Menu → Orders to see all submitted orders. The list displays:

  • ID — unique order number
  • Customer — name, email, and phone
  • Items — number of ordered items
  • Total — order total amount
  • Status — current order status
  • Date — date and time the order was submitted

Opening an individual order shows a full breakdown of items, quantities, prices, and any customer notes.

Settings

Cart-related settings are available under Settings → Orders inside FW Food Menu:

  • Order statuses — define the status values available for orders (e.g. new, processing, completed, cancelled)
  • Customer email notifications — enable or disable confirmation emails sent to the customer after a successful order
  • Admin email — override the recipient address for new order notification emails
  • Order message — set the text displayed to the customer after their order is successfully submitted

Plugin Compatibility

Other plugins extend the cart's functionality at checkout. The Delivery plugin adds a delivery address field, and the Tables plugin adds dine-in table selection. The Twilio plugin listens for new orders and sends SMS or WhatsApp notifications automatically.

To install this addon, open the Add-ons panel inside FW Food Menu. See Getting Started → Add-ons for details on free addons, paid addons, and site verification.
