FW Food Menu tutorial for WordPress

What FWFM Multilingual Does

The FWFM Multilingual addon enables per-language translation of database-stored content in FW Food Menu. This covers menu item titles and descriptions, category titles and descriptions, and email templates used in the order workflow. Interface labels in the admin panel are already handled separately — this addon focuses on the content your customers actually read.

Use Cases

  • Multilingual restaurant sites — maintain separate versions of meal titles and descriptions for each language your site serves, such as English and Italian side by side.
  • Localised order emails — configure order confirmation emails, status update messages, and cancellation notices to match the customer's language.

How It Works

Once the addon is active, a language switcher appears on the edit forms for menu items and categories. You enter titles, descriptions, and other text fields separately for each installed language. When a visitor views the menu in a given language, FW Food Menu serves the matching translation. If no translation exists for a field, the content falls back to the default language automatically.

Translations are stored per language tag (for example, en-GB or fr-FR). A language filter also appears in the admin list views for items and categories, letting you quickly review content language by language.

Translatable Content

  • Menu item titles and descriptions
  • Category titles and descriptions
  • Order and email template fields (see below)

Email Template Fields

In Settings → Email Templates, the following fields become translatable per language when this addon is active:

  • Order message — text shown to the customer after a successful order
  • New order: subject and body — email sent when a new order is placed
  • Status change: subject and body — email sent when an order status is updated
  • Paid: subject and body — email sent when an order is marked as paid
  • Cancelled: subject and body — email sent on cancellation
  • Completed: subject and body — email sent on completion

Requirements

Multiple languages must be installed and enabled in your site's Language Manager before translations can be entered. The addon does not add languages itself — it provides the translation layer for content once languages are in place.

To install this addon, open the Add-ons panel inside FW Food Menu. See Getting Started → Add-ons for details on free addons, paid addons, and site verification.
