FW Food Menu tutorial for Joomla!

What the Cart Plugin Does

The FWFM Cart plugin transforms FW Food Menu from a display-only menu into a fully functional online ordering system. Once active, visitors can add meals to a shopping cart, review their selections, and submit orders through a checkout form. A dedicated Orders section appears in the FW Food Menu admin panel, giving you a dashboard to manage and track all incoming orders.

Use Cases

  • Online food ordering — guests browse the menu, add items to their cart, and submit an order with their name, phone, email, and delivery details.
  • Order management — view and filter all orders by status: new, processing, completed, or cancelled.
  • Order notifications — new orders automatically trigger email alerts to the admin address you configure in settings.

Frontend Cart

The cart is displayed on your site using the FWFM Cart Module (mod_fwfm_cart). Visitors add items using the "Add to cart" button on each meal card. The cart panel shows current items, quantities, running totals, and the checkout form.

The checkout form collects the following information from the customer:

  • Name — customer's full name
  • Phone — contact number
  • Email — used to send an order confirmation
  • Delivery / Pickup — delivery type selection (extended by the Delivery and Tables plugins)
  • Comment — optional notes on the order

Orders cannot be submitted if the cart is empty or required fields are left blank.

Orders Dashboard

Navigate to FW Food Menu → Orders to see all submitted orders. Each row shows the order ID, customer name and contact details, number of items, order total, current status, and submission date. Use the search and filter controls to locate orders by customer name, email, phone, comment, or status. Opening an order displays a full breakdown of items, quantities, prices, and any customer notes.

Settings

Cart-related settings are found under Settings → Orders in the FW Food Menu component.

  • Order statuses — define the status values available for managing orders (e.g. new, processing, completed, cancelled).
  • Customer email notifications — enable or disable confirmation emails sent to the customer after a successful order.
  • Admin email — override the recipient address for new order notification emails.
  • Order message — set the text displayed to the customer after their order is successfully placed.

Extending the Cart

Other plugins build on top of the Cart plugin to add functionality:

  • The Delivery and Tables plugins inject additional options into the checkout form, such as a delivery address field or dine-in table selection.
  • The Twilio plugin listens for new order events to send SMS or WhatsApp notifications.

To install this addon, open the Add-ons panel inside FW Food Menu. See Getting Started → Add-ons for details on free addons, paid addons, and site verification.
