FW Gallery – Documentation

The FWG Tabbed Layout addon groups a gallery's direct subcategories into a flat row of clickable tabs at the top of the gallery page. When a visitor clicks a tab, only the gallery content area reloads via AJAX — the surrounding page stays in place. This removes full page reloads when switching between category sections and keeps navigation fast and seamless.

Use Cases

• Portfolio with sections — Photography, Video, and Illustration tabs side by side; clicking any tab swaps the gallery grid below without leaving the page.
• Restaurant or venue gallery — Interior, Dishes, and Events tabs presented together for quick browsing.
• Large galleries with many subcategories — flatten a deep category tree into a single accessible row instead of nested pages.

How It Works

When a gallery uses the Tabbed Layout, the addon renders a row of tabs above the gallery grid — one tab per direct subcategory. Clicking a tab sends an AJAX request that reloads only the gallery content area with that subcategory's files. The rest of the page is untouched.

Each subcategory retains its own design template and layout settings. The addon loads the CSS for all subcategory templates upfront to prevent style flicker when switching tabs. The visual output of the tab row itself is provided by the active design template plugin (such as Beauty or Classic).

Selecting the Tabbed Layout

Once the addon is active, the Tabbed Layout (Cascading) option becomes available in three places:

• Settings → Galleries tab → Default design — applies the tabbed layout site-wide as the default.
• Per-gallery override — select it in an individual gallery's layout field to use tabbed navigation for that gallery only.
• Menu item parameters — override the layout for a specific menu item without affecting other galleries.

Important Notes

• Only direct subcategories appear as tabs. Deeper nesting is not flattened automatically.
• If a gallery has no subcategories, the tab row is not rendered at all.
• Each subcategory tab can use its own design template independently.
• Works with all FWG design template plugins that implement the listing_top_info layout.
