FW Real Estate tutorial for Joomla!

Basic Configuration

Before publishing your first property, complete these essential setup steps to ensure the component behaves correctly on the frontend.

1. Set Your Default Country and Currency

Go to FW Real Estate → Settings → General and locate the Localization section. Set your Currency sign (e.g. $ or ) and choose whether it appears before or after the price using the Currency position field. These fields handle single-currency setups. If you need multiple currencies, the Multi Currency plugin replaces these fields with full currency management — see the Currency & Measurement Units section for details.

2. Fill In Your Dictionaries

Go to FW Real Estate → Dictionaries to define the dropdown values used across the component. The key dictionaries to populate before going live are:

  • Property Types — e.g. House, Apartment, Commercial
  • Categories — subcategories or groupings for your listings
  • Statuses — e.g. For Sale, For Rent, Sold

You do not need to complete dictionaries before creating properties. Any dropdown value can be added on the fly directly from the property edit form, so empty dictionaries will not block property creation. That said, populating them in advance keeps the process smoother.

3. Create Joomla Menu Items

FW Real Estate does not display anything on the frontend until you create at least one Joomla menu item. Go to your Joomla menu manager and add a new item. Under the menu item type selector, choose from these available options:

  • Properties Listing — the main listing page showing all properties. Page-level search filters are not built into this view; place the FWRE Search Module separately via a module position to add search functionality.
  • Single Property — a direct link to one specific property.
  • Agents Listing — lists all agents. Requires the Agents plugin.
  • User Section — frontend features for registered users. The Layout dropdown in this menu item is populated dynamically: only plugins that are currently installed and enabled will appear as layout options (e.g. Compare, Saved Search, Favorites, Property Manager, Agent Profile).

The Options tab within any menu item editor contains layout selection, pre-filter fields, and additional listing settings. Fields that depend on a plugin will display Not available, need plugin until that plugin is installed and enabled.

4. Enable the Plugins You Need

FW Real Estate functionality is extended through plugins and modules. The most straightforward way to manage them is via the Addons section inside the component, where all available plugins and modules are listed in one place. Alternatively, they can be managed through the standard Joomla Plugin Manager and Module Manager, where they appear in their respective sections.

Once a plugin is enabled, any settings it provides will appear under Settings → Addons.
