Map Not Showing

Work through the checklist below to identify why your map is not displaying correctly.

1. Map View Add-on Not Enabled

The map functionality requires the FW Real Estate – Map View plugin to be active. Go to FW Real Estate → Add-ons and confirm the Map View add-on is enabled. If it is not listed, install it through the Add-ons panel.

2. Google Maps API Key Missing or Invalid

Without a valid API key, Google Maps loads briefly and then overlays an error message. The property location pin will not appear. Open your browser's developer console to read the exact error Google returns. Enter or correct your key under Settings → General → Map View → Google Maps API key.

3. Wrong API Key Restriction Type

FW Real Estate requires two separate Google API keys with different restriction types:

  • Google Maps API key (browser map display) — must use HTTP referrer (website) restriction in Google Cloud Console, with your site URL added. Enable the Maps JavaScript API and Geocoding API on this key.
  • Google Geocoding API key (server-side geocoding when a property is saved) — must use IP address restriction. HTTP referrer restrictions block server-side requests, causing geocoding to fail silently. Enable the Geocoding API on this key.

Using the same key for both, or applying the wrong restriction type, will cause one or both functions to stop working. Enter each key in its corresponding field in Settings → General → Map View.

4. Property Coordinates Not Set

Properties with no latitude/longitude saved will not appear as markers on the map view. Open the property in the admin edit form and scroll to the Map section. Set the coordinates using one of the following methods:

  • Type the address and let the map geocode it automatically (requires a valid Geocoding API key).
  • Drag the marker to the correct position.
  • Enter the latitude and longitude values directly.

5. API Quota Exceeded

If the map was working previously but has stopped, your Google Maps API quota may be exhausted or billing may be inactive. Log in to Google Cloud Console, navigate to your project, and check the quota usage and billing status for the Maps JavaScript API and Geocoding API.

6. MapBox Token Invalid or Expired

If you are using Map Box as your map provider, verify that the access token entered under Settings → General → Map View → MapBox API key is current. Log in to your MapBox account at mapbox.com, check the token's status, and replace it if it has expired or been revoked.
