Keeping FW Real Estate up to date ensures you receive bug fixes, security patches, and new features. Follow the steps below to update safely. Update order is critical: always update the main component first, then update any add-ons. Never update add-ons before the main component.
When a new version of FW Real Estate is available, a yellow Install v.X.X.X button appears in the component admin header alongside your currently installed version number. Click this button to begin the recommended update flow.
A pre-caution modal appears before any update proceeds. It displays:
Before the Start update button becomes active, you must tick all three checkboxes:
Once all three boxes are checked, click Start update to install the new version. Do not close the browser or navigate away during the update.
Add-on update availability is checked automatically every time you open the component admin — no manual check is required. When updates are available, the Addons section sidebar icon displays an orange badge showing the number of pending updates.
Inside the Addons section, each add-on with an available update shows:
To update all add-ons at once, click the yellow Update All button at the top right of the Addons section. Always ensure the main component has been updated first before updating any add-ons. If an add-on updates before the main component, it may call component methods that do not yet exist, resulting in a 500 error on your site.
Updates will appear in System → Update → Extensions, but automatic or unattended updates are strongly discouraged. If Joomla's automatic update scheduler runs and updates an add-on plugin before the main component, the site may return a 500 error. Do not enable automatic update scheduling for FW Real Estate. If you do use the Joomla Extension Manager to update manually, always update the main component entry first, then update add-ons — the same order applies.
Updates always appear in System → Update → Extensions regardless of your website's verification status — the update server returns the update XML to everyone. However, the actual package download will fail if your website is not verified, because the download endpoint requires a valid authorized website key.
