Grid View

FW Real Estate tutorial for WordPress

The Grid View add-on adds a Grid layout to the property listing: equal-size cards arranged in rows, each with the photo on top. Instead of a vertical list, visitors see several properties side by side at once — putting more photos on screen and making visual comparison immediate.

On a residential site the photo earns the click. Grid View also brings two browse-stage features — cycling photos and a quick-view overlay — that let a visitor assess properties without leaving the results page.

Use Cases

  • Photo-led browsing. Residential stock where visitors decide from the picture before they read anything.
  • Letting the visitor choose. With the add-on enabled, the listing's layout switcher offers Grid alongside the default list, so visitors can switch between views themselves.
  • Faster triage. Cycling photos and quick view let a visitor rule properties in or out without ever opening a detail page.

Settings

Once the add-on is enabled, its two settings appear under Configuration → Add-ons → Grid View.

SettingDefaultDescription
Photos cycle on hover Yes Pointing at a tile plays through that property's photos, roughly 1.2 seconds each. Moving the pointer away rewinds to the first photo. The navigation arrows remain available throughout.
"Quick view" pill Yes A pill that appears on hover and opens the property in a modal overlay, without navigating away from the results page.

Where the Grid Layout Appears

Enabling the add-on makes Grid an available layout wherever a listing is rendered:

  • The listing page's layout switcher, so visitors can switch to Grid themselves.
  • The Layout option of the FW Real Estate — Listing block in the WordPress block editor.
  • The layout attribute of the [fw_real_estate] shortcode — for example, [fw_real_estate layout="grid"].

With the add-on disabled, Grid is not offered anywhere. Any listing previously set to the Grid layout falls back to the list view automatically.

Notes

  • Column count follows the screen, not a setting. Typically three columns on a desktop, two on a tablet, and one on a phone. This is part of the design layer and can be adjusted through a custom design.
  • Quick view does not change the page address. The browser's Back button still behaves as expected after the visitor closes the modal.
  • A property with no photo falls back to the default property image set in Configuration → General → Image settings, so the grid never displays a blank tile.
  • Grid works alongside all other listing features: search, pagination, featured-on-top, the compare checkbox, and the favourite button.

To install this addon, open the Add-ons panel inside FW Real Estate. See Getting Started → Add-ons for details on free addons, paid addons, and site verification.
